The Search for Entertainment: December 2024 Editorial
How can we explore and share entertaining content without losing focus, while still keeping our audiences and communities engaged?
Finding the Right Entertainment Content
Once we’ve studied our audience, published our offers, and positioned our core content on the right digital platforms, we often need to add a layer of entertainment; the content designed specifically for our clientele and social communities.
Entertainment content sustains interest and helps people stay connected to your company’s daily activities. Examples include: fundraising campaigns, local events, community involvement, professional development, or showcasing your partners and extended services.
Written entertainment content can also take the form of blog posts, columns, or digital magazine features.
Of course, today’s trend is toward regularly scheduled or spontaneous video/audio content — podcasts, YouTube channels, livestreams. When we establish a publishing rhythm with consistent release dates, it helps our community stay engaged and creates expectation and loyalty.
Keep Entertainment and Promotions Separate
Let’s not mix entertainment with commercial announcements.
Direct product or service ads should be planned and repeated strategically in the content calendar. Entertainment, on the other hand, is like the background music or magazine rack in a shop’s waiting room — it creates atmosphere and encourages interaction without selling directly.
Consistency Pays Off
I personally love creating reader habits around product promotions. For example:
Social media posts every Thursday to promote weekend specials
Member email on the first of each month
A seasonal digest every day during a key campaign window
These strategies are easy to plan and execute because the structure stays the same, with only a few elements updated each time.
I hope this edition of The Monthly Ticket both informs and entertains — and inspires ideas for your own content strategy.
Enjoy your reading,
